

It’s the guest we’ve been expecting and yet it has still managed to knock many of us off our emotional axis. Many thanks to Tanya Davis for reminding us all that by having a little patience we can realize how truly unique and beautiful alone can be.Here in Toronto, we are officially in Wave 2 of COVID-19. ‘Cause if you’re happy in your head then solitude is blessed and alone is okay. I honestly suggest picking up a copy on Amazon, either in Hardback or for Kindle. There is a very beautiful message in How To Be Alone and although you can see her performance on Youtube, it isn’t something that you can hold on to when you need to remember. If you happen to live up there you can check out her Show Dates! She has won multiple awards and nominations for her words and I believe would be incredible to see perform live, however she’s in Canada. Tanya Davis is a spoken word poetess that has fused her poetry with music and video, creating her own form of art. Having these words close by, in a pocket or a purse, would mean that you would always have someone letting you know that it’s okay to let go and just be you for awhile with you for awhile. It is sadly ingrained in many of us that being alone, accepting yourself as alone, is supposed to be awful so it feels wrong to be happy – even for a moment.

I honestly wish I had this book in the years that I was a single mother. But alone is a freedom that breaths easy and weightless and lonely is healing if you make it. Like people must have problems if after awhile no one’s dating them. Society is afraid of alone though – like lonely hearts are wasting away in basements. My most favorite part of How To Be Alone is when Tanya Davis explains in her beautiful words why it seems so frighting.
